¦ A doodle a day – and new pattern adventures

[Pattern made by me – from my doodles]

A doodle a day – and new pattern adventures

For a lot of years I have written morning pages – advised by Julia Cameron.

In most of my adult life I have been creatively blocked. Dreamed about being creative, dreamed of creating something with my hands, dreamed of living as a full-time artist in contact with my soul and just be swallowed up by creative flow.

After a lot of procrastinations and a stressful daily life I turned my life upside down two years ago and started to ACT on doing something to fulfill my creative dreams.

In the beginning I changed my diet to Paleo food and I followed Julia Cameron’s 12 weeks creativity course while I was blogging about her books “The Artist’s Way” and “Walking in this world”. It made a huge difference!

Daily mood boards and doodles

In 2014 I made 365 moodboards to give myself permission to play and try out all sorts of creative genres.

But a year ago, exactly on 27 May 2014, I started a new creative path that until this day has been the most important path in my new creative life: I started drawing a drawing a day. A so-called doodle.

My doodles has almost replaced my morning pages – and I feel I have the best start of the day, if I do 5-10 minutes of free doodling with pen and paper, but it also happens that I’m doodling in the afternoon or evening. And I really like it a lot!!!

Inspired by nature

Somehow most of my doodles are inspired by nature. In the beginning I was very inspired by flowers and sprouts in my own garden, by illustrations in old books and not least of beautiful retro fabrics – I really suck it all in and store it somewhere in my visual memory…

Obsessed with patterns

Last weekend I added a new chapter to my creative adventure. I joined Jessica Swift’s Pattern Camp through an online course in the US – where I learned how to transform my doodles into beautiful designs ready to be printed on tablecloths, napkins, shower curtains, paper, notebooks and you name it. It has really made me dream of patterns both day and night.

I am so curious to see what my new pattern knowledge will lead to – there are endless pattern possibilities and color combinations, once you begin to play in Adobe Illustrator…

I don’t blog as much for the time being – but you can always keep up with me here on Instagram.

Lots of love and happiness, Susanne ♥
