In Frida Kahlo Mood ♥

I have just seen the most AMAZING Frida Kahlo exhibition at “Arken” Art Museum in Copenhagen.

Frida Kahlo’s life story and amazing paintings have always fascinated me. Imagine having lived in so much pain throughout her life, because she suffered a tragic bus accident when she was 18 years old, which made her bedridden for long periods of her life. – With a mirror on the ceiling above her bed so she could paint the most adventurous – and sometimes quite macabre – self-portraits.

For through her severe pain and a wild love affair with Diego Rivera , she has painted herself again and again in all sorts of absurd situations throughout life.

“They thought I was a Surrealist, but I was not.
I never painted my dreams.
I painted my own reality.”
– – Frida Kahlo

I am so much drawn to Frida Kahlo’s paintings, her colors, her symbolism – though I do not always fully understand it – and not least her eternal self-presentation and self-control, which is really fascinating.

A tribute to my inner Frida Kahlo

This mood board describes the feeling I have inside the body right now after the wildest sensory bombardment at the art museum “Arken” in Copenhagen. A mood full of neon colors, fertility, love, flowers, symbols and folklore.

The Mexican “bark painting” with the most beautiful neon colors is a gift from one of my mother in law’s friends, while the postcard of Mexican Frida Kahlo “Me and my Parrot” (1941) was mailed to me from a dear friend in 2004, and it is normally kept safe in one of my “God Jars”. The other three ornaments are probably not Mexican, but I really love them – they talk to my inner gypsy and hippie.

Do you also have an inner crazy, colorful Frida Kahlo…?

Lots of love and happiness, Susanne
